Spreading the love around...

I've migrated to Wordpress for a while, with a whole new blog.

It's information and action focussed. It's always updating. It's just growing, so be kind to it. Treat it like a kitten, just for a while.

PS. Read the 'About' section first to see of you want to stick around.

Dear Valerie, I recently borrowed Sept 2012 Women's Weekly from the library and read about you & Billy. Horrified by the epidemic of autism c.f. 50 years ago. La Trobe Uni is doing research and emailed me that fathers' age is showing some correlation. Not to blame poor Dad but esp in US (high divorce & remarriage rate) and fathering at older ages, this could be a cause. FYI, with much love, Marlene

I too read the article in the Women's Weekly. I have a son with severe autism who will turn 30 in March. When he was finally officially diagnosed, despite me knowing for probably two years and after much 'mother blame'I found myself in a world where it was considered a 1 in 10,000 diagnosis. How things have changed. My son was not immunised, so it wasn't that, I was 22 when I had him, so maternal and paternal age weren't a factor. We ate very well fresh and organic foods and didn't use much plastic. There had been weed spraying around the house on two occasions. I was abused by total strangers in public for my child's behaviour and treated as a neurotic first time mother by early childhood professionals. It took months to work out that the theme music to a current affairs program was what set off some of his most distressing 'tantrums'. My son was placed into care at 7 years of age, there was little alternative or assistance. I don't think I have ever really recovered from the trauma
